On June 22, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province held a ceremony to celebrate the 78th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1945 - July 27, 2025), posthumously awarding the State honorary title "Heroic Vietnamese Mothers", awarding the Independence Medal to the martyrs' families and inaugurating the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs in Hon Dat district.
The ceremony announced the decision to posthumously award the State honorary title "Vietnamese Heroic Mothers" of the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to 21 individuals in Kien Giang province who have made many contributions and sacrifices for the cause of national liberation, construction and protection of the Fatherland.
At the same time, the decision of the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam on awarding the Third Class Independence Medal to 6 martyrs' families in Kien Giang province was announced. Of which, there are 4 families with only one child as a martyr, a victim and 2 families with many children as martyrs, a victim for the cause of national liberation, national construction and defense.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan said that through the wars of national liberation, national defense and international service, Kien Giang has contributed countless blood and bones.
More than 20,000 officers and soldiers of Kien Giang bravely sacrificed; tens of thousands of war invalids and sick soldiers; more than 2,200 people infected with Agent Orange; many families donated many children to the Fatherland. Examples such as mother Pham Thi Khanh in Hon Dat, mother Le Thi Dieu in Tan Hiep with 7 children who sacrificed are beautiful symbols of patriotism and sacrifice.
Places such as Hon Dat, Hon Me, Hon Soc, Phu Quoc Prison, Bien Phu State Forest... are vivid evidence of war crimes as well as the steadfast and indomitable spirit of the Kien Giang people.

With that tradition, up to now, Kien Giang province has 83 collectives and 41 individuals awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces; 1,800 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers were awarded and posthumously presented; tens of thousands of medals and medals of all kinds were awarded to officers, soldiers and people.
Over the past 78 years, the work of "Thanks for your gratitude" has always received deep attention from the Party Committee, government and people of Kien Giang. Kien Giang province has built a gratitude Fund with resources of tens of billions of VND; supported housing for 3,132 meritorious households; searched for and collected 2,144 martyrs' remains in Cambodia and more than 1,043 remains in the province...
Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan emphasized: The Monument to Heroes and Martyrs of Hon Dat District is a project with many profound political, historical, cultural and humanitarian meanings.
This will be a red address, a place to foster patriotism and revolutionary spirit for the younger generation, contributing to building an increasingly rich and civilized province Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan emphasized.
To continue to better implement the work of "Retribution and gratitude", Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan suggested that Party committees, authorities, the Fatherland Front, and organizations continue to promote propaganda on policies and guidelines on war invalids, martyrs, and meritorious people. Timely and fully resolve the regime and policies for people with meritorious services; promote the search and collection of martyrs' remains.
Pay more attention to job creation, improve the material and spiritual life of families of meritorious people. Management, preservation and effective promotion of the Monument to Heroes and Martyrs of Hon Dat District - so that this place is always a destination of gratitude for generations.
