Speaking at the Conference, Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh - Vice Chairman of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee said that originating from a mountainous province with many difficulties and a high rate of poor households compared to the whole country, in recent years, Yen Bai has paid special attention to sustainable poverty reduction, especially eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses, supporting housing for households with meritorious services to the revolution and relatives of martyrs; poor households, near-poor households; households affected by natural disasters, storms and floods.

In the period of 2021-2024, the whole province supported over 7,400 houses for households with meritorious services, poor households, near-poor households and households damaged by floods and storms (of which Mu Cang Chai district supported making 1,576 houses), thereby contributing important to reducing the poverty rate of the province. By the end of 2024, the poverty rate of Mu Cang Chai district was 28.4%.

Following the direction of the Prime Minister, in 2025, Yen Bai province issued a Project to implement the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses with the goal of supporting the construction of 2,208 houses with a total estimated cost of over 120 billion VND, of which Mu Cang Chai district supported the construction of 771 houses (for 41.3 billion VND).

With the determination of the entire political system, the involvement of all levels, branches, unions, businesses and people, Mu Cang Chai district has completed 100% of the house as planned, contributing to the completion of the province's overall goals (completing the support of building before 30.6.2025, 2 months earlier than the planning objectives of the project).

In the process of supporting housing construction for poor and near-poor households, Yen Bai province has paid special attention to implementing and promulgating policies and projects, mobilizing the participation of Party committees and authorities at all levels, the strength of the political system and the people in implementing housing support; effectively integrating and using socialized resources (support from provinces, enterprises, collectives, individuals inside and outside the province) to implement the project.

Despite many difficulties (in terms of terrain, transportation, people's lives, the cost of building houses is higher than other districts), Mu Cang Chai district has had the drastic participation of the political system and has many creative ways to support house building (such as demolishing old houses here, leveling the ground in some places, starting to pour foundations, building walls in others...).

The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Yen Bai province also acknowledged, commended and highly appreciated the efforts of the leaders of Mu Cang Chai district, all levels, sectors and localities in the district in implementing the Project. According to the criteria for assessing a district to escape poverty, by 2025, Mu Cang Chai will basically no longer be a poor district.
