Dong Thap – Through gratitude to the people who supported the medical sector during the resistance war, the moral lesson of “When drinking water, remember its source” is passed on to the younger generation of doctors.
On the eve of the Lunar New Year and the 70th Anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, Mr. Doan Tan Buu - Director of the Department of Health of Dong Thap province - led a working delegation to Thap Muoi district (Dong Thap) to carry out the journey "Returning to the source in 2025".
By organizing many practical activities such as: health check-ups, free medicine, meetings, visits, gift giving... the doctors have brought many joyful and happy emotions to the people here.
The activity has been maintained continuously by the Dong Thap Health Sector for more than 30 years as a meaningful gratitude of the doctors of the Red Lotus Land to the people in the land that once nurtured and protected the Dong Thap Health Sector during the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism.
Moreover, through this act of gratitude, the health sector also wants to inspire and educate young doctors, the generation that enjoys the peaceful atmosphere of an independent country, about the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" of the days when the health sector of Kien Phong - Dong Thap together with the whole country overcame the rain of bombs and bullets to support the revolutionary forces to fight and defeat the two powerful empires of the world.

On the eve of Tet and the 70th anniversary of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, the Department of Health of Dong Thap province returned to Thap Muoi district to carry out the journey to the source in 2025 in Thanh My commune. This is a locality that used to be the base of many revolutionary organizations during the resistance war against the US. Among them is the Civil Medicine Department of Kien Phong province - the predecessor of the Dong Thap Health sector today. This activity has been maintained continuously for over 30 years with the rotation of medical units in the province. This time, the Dong Thap General Hospital is mainly responsible for the trip. The unit mobilized many experienced doctors and a large number of medicines to organize health check-ups and provide free medicine for more than 200 people from policy families, poor and near-poor households in Thanh My commune. At the same time, a meeting was held for generations of doctors who had worked with Thanh My people during the resistance war.In a warm and affectionate atmosphere, the delegates recalled many profound memories and feelings that Thanh My people have nurtured for Kien Phong health sector, the predecessor of Dong Thap health sector today. In the photo is Doctor Doan Van Hong, former Director of Dong Thap Health Department, one of the few medical staff who had been with Thanh My during the resistance war, and still alive. Mr. Hong was also the initiator and enthusiastically supported the maintenance of this source-based activity continuously for over 30 years.Doctor Doan Tan Buu - Director of Dong Thap Province Department of Health - kindly handed over to the representatives of families who had contributed to Kien Phong's medical sector during the resistance war and hoped to convey the moral lesson "When drinking water, remember its source" to the younger generation of doctors. This time, the medical delegation presented 79 gifts to families with contributions to the health sector of Kien Phong province. In addition to gifts and congratulations from health sector leaders, the meeting was also an opportunity for wartime doctors to share memories and visit the families of benefactors who had taken care of and supported the unit. For many people, this is a very important meeting. Because it is not only a gift, but also a gratitude from the doctors... Therefore, when receiving the invitation, even though her son was taking care of her in Vung Tau, Mrs. Ngo Thi Dep (70 years old, left of the photo) still traveled to attend. On this occasion, Mr. Doan Tan Buu also led a working delegation to Tan Kieu commune (Thap Muoi district) to visit and wish a happy new year to the family who volunteered to donate land to build the Southern Military Medical Department in 1947.The delegation respectfully offered incense at the altar of Mr. Ca Dac's family, who donated land for the establishment of the Southern Military Medical Service in 1947.On this occasion, Mr. Buu and his delegation visited and presented gifts to the family of the former leader of the Department of Health of Dong Thap province, who is also a son of this land rich in tradition.
