Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang - Founder and Director of WildAct affirmed: "WildAct is committed to continuing to stand side by side with the frontline forces in the journey of preserving Chu Yang Sin forest in all aspects, both material and spiritual, like this Award. We also hope that the program will be replicated in many other areas, where forest rangers are still persistently and silently protecting precious forests day and night.
Chu Yang Sin National Park, nearly 60,000 hectares wide, currently has about 100 full-time forest rangers - that is, on average, each ranger has to patrol an area of up to 600 hectares.
They face many dangers, from rugged terrain, natural disasters to attacks from illegal loggers. In 2018, a VQG official was shot 17 times by illegal loggers during a patrol, and is still alive with 5 shrapnel fragments in his body to this day.
In that context, the Chu Yang Sin Forest Ranger Award is of great significance in adding motivation for officials to continue to persistently stick with the nature protection profession.
