On the afternoon of December 17, the Propaganda Department of Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee held a ceremony to announce the Kien Giang geographical book and summarize and award the prize of the contest to learn about the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 1944 - December 22, 2024), the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day and the 79th anniversary of the Tradition Day of the Kien Giang Provincial Armed Forces.
Mr. Tong Phuoc Truong - Head of the Propaganda Department of Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee - said that Kien Giang is the southwesternmost province of Vietnam and is considered a "miniature Vietnam" because it possesses a rich and unique terrain from plains, mountains to islands.
The locality is especially a place where Kinh - Hoa - Khmer ethnic groups live together with a diversity of cultures and customs. To introduce readers to the history and land of Kien Giang, the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial People's Committee organized research and compiled the work Kien Giang Geographical Record.
After 20 years of hard research, Kien Giang Gazetteer has been completed and published with 3 volumes of quite comprehensive and systematic records of the natural geography, history, culture, economy, and society of Kien Giang province from the past to the present.
“The book series is not only a scientific and cultural work of great significance to Kien Giang province, but also a valuable, authentic educational document serving research, teaching, and learning about Kien Giang province,” Mr. Truong emphasized.
Dr. Pham Cong Kham - Head of the Editorial Board of Kien Giang Geography - said that it took more than 20 years, with the help of local agencies, units, departments and branches at all levels, the collaboration of scientists inside and outside the province, and the efforts of the Editorial Board, to complete the Kien Giang Geography. These are scientific works on geography, economics, history, culture, politics, security and national defense to educate, introduce, promote, attract investment and development, contributing to making the values of historical traditions and unique cultural heritage of the locality more widely spread and promoted in the new stage of international integration.
The ceremony also held an award ceremony for the Contest to learn about the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, the 35th anniversary of the National Defense Day, and the 79th anniversary of the Tradition Day of the Kien Giang Provincial Armed Forces. The contest received 4,218 entries and selected 70 entries for the final round.
According to the Organizing Committee, the contest has attracted the attention of Party committees at all levels, authorities, socio-political organizations and media and press agencies in the province. In particular, it has attracted the participation of a large number of cadres, party members, union members, members of the armed forces, teachers, students and people from all walks of life.
The results included 16 individual prizes, including 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 10 consolation prizes; 6 collective prizes with good achievements in launching and participating in the contest, including: 1 first prize, 2 second prizes, 3 third prizes, and 5 individual thematic prizes for ethnic minorities.
The contest has contributed to arousing national pride, self-esteem, the spirit of determination to fight and win of the People's Army and encouraging officers and soldiers to continue promoting the qualities of "Uncle Ho's soldiers", the fine traditions of the Army to meet the requirements and tasks of building and defending the Fatherland in the new period.
