Long Hung communal house relic (Long Hung commune, Dong Thap province) still preserves many imprints of the Nam Ky Uprising in 1940 - a historical milestone of the Southern Revolutionary movement. This is also the place marking the first appearance of the red flag with a yellow star, a sacred symbol associated with the history of the Vietnamese Revolution.
Passing through the communal house gate, artifacts still preserved such as spears, hammers, swords or wooden fish that people used in the uprising make the historical story seem to come back to life. From farmers familiar with the fields, they stood up to fight when the country was in danger, contributing to creating a vibrant fighting atmosphere in the South in the 1940s.

According to Ms. Le Thi Huyen Linh - an employee of the Dong Thap Provincial Relic Management Board, Long Hung communal house used to be a force gathering place before the uprising. In the early morning of November 23, 1940, under the leadership of Mr. Phan Van Khoe - Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee cum Head of the Provincial Uprising Committee and Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tot (Nguyen Thi Thap), the insurgents simultaneously launched troops. Even with rudimentary weapons, the revolutionary forces still captured 11 enemy posts, seizing power in 75 villages and communes.
In particular, Long Hung communal house also marks many important historical events. For the first time, the red flag with a yellow star was planted on a banyan tree in the communal house yard. Also in this place, the words "Democratic Republic of Vietnam" appeared on the banner hanging in front of the communal house. In front of thousands of people, the first provincial-level revolutionary government of the country was launched to the people right here.
Although the uprising only lasted for 49 days, the fighting spirit and aspiration for independence left by the people of Nam Ky still carries profound value. Historian Tran Van Giau once commented that the "treasure" that the Nam Ky Uprising left for the nation is the red flag with a 5-pointed yellow star - the flag that later became the Vietnamese national flag.
After the country's reunification, Long Hung communal house was invested in restoration and embellishment with many items such as: artifact display house, martyr memorial stele and Nguyen Thi Thap worship area. In 1995, this place was ranked as a National Relic.

Amidst the green space with ancient banyan trees still shining in the communal house yard, today's relic is not only a red address for traditional education but also a place to remind of the indomitable spirit of our forefathers. Historical values from the Nam Ky Uprising are still being preserved and spread through many generations.
