5 traditional moon cake shops crowded with customers in Hanoi

Thanh Hải |

Besides modern moon cake brands, many traditional cake shops in Hanoi are still very popular.

Bao Phuong Mooncakes

Bao Phuong Mooncakes have existed for over 70 years and are the "childhood" of many Hanoians. Every full moon of the 7th to 8th lunar month, this cake shop attracts a large number of people lining up to buy, causing a traffic jam on a corner of Thuy Khue Street (Tay Ho District).

Bao Phuong Mooncakes have a traditional appearance and flavor. The square and round mooncakes have fillings such as green rice, mixed fruits, and green beans. The cakes have an attractive aroma, dry crust, rich sweetness, and are often served with tea to balance the flavor.

Bao Phuong mooncakes cost from 25,000 - 55,000 VND/piece depending on the type.

Phuong Soat Mooncakes

Phuong Soat is a famous moon cake brand in the old town. Not too much advertising, the cakes are mainly loved by middle-aged and elderly people.

Both moon cakes and baked cakes are square with familiar traditional patterns. The most popular type of cake is mixed with pumpkin jam, lard, sesame, lemon leaves, char siu, Chinese sausage... and has a sharp sweetness and a characteristic dry crust.

In addition, the shop also has some more modern cakes in the shape of carp, pigs, turtles with salted egg yolk, roast chicken, ham. The only downside is that Phuong Soat mooncakes are more expensive than other cakes, about 60,000 - 100,000 VND/piece. This brand has three locations on Hang Chieu, Vong Ha and Hang Ngang streets.

Ninh Huong Mooncakes

Located on Hang Dieu Street, Hoan Kiem District, Ninh Huong mooncakes are loved by many people in the old town because of their loyalty to traditional methods and flavors.

The cakes are packaged simply, without any fuss, and produced year-round with simple fillings such as mixed fruits and mung beans. During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the shop produces other new fillings such as lotus seed and longan... and cost about 50,000 VND/piece.

In addition to moon cakes, Ninh Huong brand also sells other traditional products such as jam, tea...

Mrs. Dan's Mooncakes

Mrs. Dan Mooncakes is also a famous brand in Hanoi's Old Quarter, located on Hang Be Street. The shop mainly sells mixed baked cakes or green beans.

Mrs. Dan's mooncakes are said to have a distinctive aroma, a fairly large mass, and a rich filling, ensuring food safety and hygiene. However, the price of the cakes is also very high, around 55,000 - 95,000 VND/cake. In addition, some types of cakes that need to be ordered in advance have the highest price of 650,000 VND/cake.

Binh Chung Mooncakes

Originating from the traditional confectionery village of Xuan Dinh, Bac Tu Liem district, Binh Chung mooncakes are loved by many diners for their delicious flavor and reasonable price.

Binh Chung mooncakes have a variety of fillings such as mixed, char siu, ham, roast chicken, longan, taro, melon seeds... to satisfy a variety of customers. This brand improves the dry crust of the traditional cake recipe, as well as the filling being too sweet for the taste of modern diners, different from other traditional cake shops. Binh Chung mooncakes cost from 30,000 - 50,000 VND/piece.
