Sonny Side is a famous American food blogger, owner of the Best Ever Food Review Show channel with over 11 million followers on YouTube. He regularly posts videos of his experiences with delicious and unique dishes from countries around the world.
This food blogger affirms that although Ho Chi Minh City has many delicious dishes, coffee and broken rice are still the most perfect combination for a great breakfast.
According to Sonny Side, it is impossible to start a new day in Vietnam without coffee - a drink that is both delicious and helps to keep the mind alert. Instead of drinking coffee at big stores and brands, the American vlogger decided to enjoy authentic street-style coffee at a small shop deep in an alley.
According to him, the black coffee here is quite thick and bitter. If you do not like pure coffee, diners can also order coffee milk.
After enjoying a few sips of coffee, Sonny headed to a broken rice restaurant - his favorite morning dish in Ho Chi Minh City. He humorously said that he had only been in the city for a few months but had eaten broken rice "a billion times" because it was so delicious.
Broken rice is made from rice that is no longer whole. With this special texture, the rice is often served with toppings such as chicken, pork ribs, egg rolls, cucumbers, pork rinds, etc. According to Sonny Side, although the pork ribs are “bathed” in fish sauce and caramelized sugar - spices that are not good for your health if eaten too much, he still cannot resist this delicious dish.
He praised the egg rolls for their soft, spongy, rich texture, which was both beautiful and delicious. However, the “star” of the dish had to be the pork ribs: “The pork ribs were grilled to perfection. The caramelized sugar and fat blended together to create a beautiful caramel color, soft, moist texture. I have eaten this dish many times and never get tired of it.”
The food blogger also did not forget to sprinkle sweet and spicy fish sauce on the side. He commented that Vietnamese people are quite fond of fish sauce because it makes the dish more attractive and flavorful.
The YouTuber was surprised to see that these pork ribs were grilled right on a charcoal stove outside the shop, with even a fan next to them to keep the fire from going out. He said he felt like a real Vietnamese when drinking coffee and eating broken rice on the sidewalk early in the morning.
At first, when eating here, Sonny could not believe his ears when a full, nutritious meal like this only cost about 30,000 VND.
