According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, a tropical depression in the East Sea is about to make landfall on Hainan Island (China).
As of 7:00 PM on August 19, the center of the tropical depression is located at about 19.6 degrees North latitude - 112.2 degrees East longitude, in the northwest sea area of the Northern East Sea, about 180km east of Hainan Island (China).
The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is strong at level 6, equivalent to 39-49km/h, gusting at level 8. The tropical depression is moving in the West-Northwest direction at a speed of 5-10km/h.
It is forecasted that by 7:00 PM on August 20, the tropical depression will move in a westerly direction at a speed of 5-10km/h and is likely to strengthen further. The center of the low pressure is located at about 19.8 degrees North latitude - 110.7 degrees East longitude, on land north of Hainan Island (China), with intensity level 6-7, gusts level 9.
Disaster risk level: level 3 for the northwestern sea area of the Northern East Sea.
By 7:00 PM on August 21, the tropical depression is forecast to move in the West-Northwest direction at a slow speed, about 3-5km/h. The center of the low pressure is at about 20.1 degrees North latitude - 109.8 degrees East longitude, over the sea area east of the Gulf of Tonkin.
Wind intensity maintained at level 6-7, gusts at level 9. Disaster risk level: level 3 for the northwestern sea area of the Northern East Sea and the eastern sea area of the Gulf of Tonkin.
From the next 48 to 72 hours, the tropical depression is likely to move in the Northwest direction, at a speed of about 3-5km/h.
Due to the influence of the tropical depression, the sea area northwest of the Northern East Sea area has strong winds of level 6-7, gusts of level 9. Sea waves are 2-4m high, strong sea turbulence.
