According to the Joint Typhoon Warning Center, Typhoon No. 5 Saudel made landfall for the third time in China in Zhangzhou city, Fujian province.
After entering the mainland, the storm continues to move westward, heading towards Guangdong. The strongest wind near the storm center reaches 75 km/h.
Due to the impact of the storm, heavy rain appeared in Fujian and Guangdong provinces, expected to last until the end of September 4.
In Fujian, heavy rain caused flooding in some areas. Floodwaters rose on low-lying roads, submerging many vehicles and carrying soil, rocks, and waste.
Faced with the risk of bad weather, the Fujian authorities have implemented many response measures. Schools in Fuzhou, Quanzhou and some localities have temporarily suspended direct operations. Some tourist destinations, including amusement parks, have also temporarily closed.
24 passenger ferry routes along the coast of Fujian have temporarily stopped operating on September 3. Local authorities simultaneously warned of the risk of prolonged heavy rain, flash floods and landslides.
Previously, about 247,700 people in high-risk areas in Fujian were evacuated to proactively respond to heavy rain and natural disaster risks.
It is forecast that Saudel will quickly weaken and gradually dissipate as it goes deeper inland. However, the humid circulation of the system may still maintain rain in some areas on September 4, especially in low-lying areas, riverside or mountainous areas at risk of flash floods and landslides.
In the East Sea, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the afternoon of September 3rd, in Phu Quy Special Zone there is strong Southwest wind at level 6. The sea area east of the North and Central East Sea, the sea area from Gia Lai to Khanh Hoa has scattered showers and thunderstorms.
Forecast for the night of September 3rd and day of September 4th, the sea area southeast of the Northern East Sea area, the Central East Sea area, the sea area north of the Southern East Sea area (including the north of Truong Sa special zone), the sea area from Khanh Hoa to Ho Chi Minh City will have strong southwest winds at level 6, gusts at level 7-8; rough seas, waves 2.0-5.0m high.
On the night of September 3rd and September 4th, the sea area east of the North and Central East Sea, the sea area from Lam Dong to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang and the Gulf of Thailand will have scattered showers and thunderstorms. In thunderstorms, there is a high possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts of wind at level 7-8, sea waves over 2.0m high.
All ships operating in the above areas are at high risk of being affected by strong winds and large waves.
