According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the holiday schedule for the Hung Kings Commemoration Day and May 30 - May 1 is built on the basis of collecting opinions from ministries, branches, trade union organizations and related agencies before submitting it to the Government for decision.
Specifically, the Hung Kings Commemoration Day 2026 falls on Sunday (April 26), workers get compensatory leave on Monday (April 27). Including weekends, the 3-day holiday lasts from April 25 - April 27.
Immediately after that, the April 30 - May 1 holiday falls on Thursdays and Fridays, if Saturdays and Sundays are off, the total holiday time can be 4 days from April 30 - May 3.
Between the two holidays there are 2 working days (April 28 - 29). Therefore, the proposal to connect the holidays into 9 days is only an opinion on social networks and does not belong to the official holiday schedule.
The Ministry of Home Affairs also clearly stated that the holiday schedule is regulated by the Government and applies to the public sector. For businesses, the exchange of working days or extra days off must be agreed upon by the employer and employees, ensuring the provisions of the Labor Code such as having at least 4 days off each month. Employees can apply for leave if the business agrees.
To create convenience for students, some schools such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, Gia Dinh University, Foreign Trade University and University of Commerce have arranged supplementary teaching or online learning on alternating days. Thanks to that, students and lecturers can have a continuous holiday from the ancestral anniversary to the end of May 1st, a total of 9 days.
Employees in the private sector working 44 - 48 hours per week will implement a holiday schedule according to the Labor Code, including 1 day off for the Hung Kings Commemoration Day and 2 days off on April 30 - May 1.
Some workers can proactively apply for leave or work remotely for two days on April 28-29 to enjoy a 9-day consecutive holiday.
According to current regulations, Vietnam has a total of 11 official holidays and Tet holidays each year, including 1 day of the Gregorian New Year, 5 days of the Lunar New Year, 1 day of Hung Kings' Death Anniversary, 2 days of April 30 - May 1, and 2 days of National Day.
Resolution 80 of the Politburo issued on January 7 agreed to choose November 24 every year as Vietnam Culture Day, aiming to add it to the full-wage holiday in the future. The Government has assigned relevant ministries and sectors to study and propose when amending the Labor Code.
For agencies and units implementing long holiday schedules, the requirement is to arrange on-duty forces, ensuring timely handling of arising tasks. Units without fixed weekend holiday schedules will proactively arrange to suit production and business plans.
The long holiday in April is an ideal time to plan trips to experience many regions from North to South, or travel abroad.
