According to the framework plan for the 2025-2026 school year issued by the Ministry of Education and Training, holidays and Tet holidays for students are implemented according to the provisions of the Labor Code and annual guiding documents.
Specifically, during the school year, students are off on major holidays including: New Year's Day (1 day), Lunar New Year (5 days), Hung Kings Commemoration Day (1 day - 10th day of the 3rd lunar month), Southern Liberation Day, National Reunification Day April 30 (1 day); International Labor Day May 1 (1 day) and National Day September 2 (2 days).
In 2026, Hung Kings' Death Anniversary falls on Sunday, April 26. According to the provisions of the Labor Code, workers and students will have compensatory leave on Monday, April 27.
Therefore, for schools that do not organize classes on Saturdays, the 2026 Hung Kings Commemoration holiday for students may last 3 consecutive days, from Saturday, April 25th to the end of Monday, April 27th.
Immediately after that, students continue to have holidays on April 30 and May 1. According to the 2026 calendar, Southern Liberation Day, National Reunification April 30 falls on Thursday and International Labor Day May 1 falls on Friday. If the school does not organize classes on Saturday, this holiday may last 4 consecutive days, from April 30 to the end of May 3.
Thus, in the 2026 holiday schedule, students will have two quite close holidays. After the Hung Kings Commemoration holiday ends, students return to school for two days and then continue to enter the extended April 30 - May 1 holiday.
According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, Departments of Education and Training are allowed to proactively develop school year plans and holiday and Tet schedules for students in localities, but must ensure enough 35 weeks of actual study according to regulations.
The Ministry also requires the first semester of the 2025 - 2026 school year to end before January 18 and the second semester to be completed before May 31. This is the basis for localities to arrange suitable school schedules and holiday schedules for students.
With two holidays close together at the end of April, many families can take advantage of this time to plan short trips. Destinations near Hanoi such as Tam Dao, Ba Vi, Ninh Binh, Ha Long or Sa Pa are suitable for a 2-3 day trip combining resort and nature exploration.
The 4-day holiday on April 30 - May 1 is also a favorable time for families to choose longer routes such as Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang or tours to explore the Northwest and Central Highlands.
However, because this is the peak tourist season, experts recommend booking air tickets, hotel rooms and services early to avoid overload and high prices.
