National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the night of August 17 to August 18, the Northern region and the area from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh are likely to experience moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 30-60mm, locally very heavy rain over 100mm.
Previously, in the evening and night of August 16, the Northern mountainous region, Thanh Hoa and Nghe An had scattered showers and thunderstorms, rainfall of 10-30mm, locally over 80mm. The Central Highlands and Southern region also had showers and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 15-30mm, locally over 60mm.
Notably, from the night of August 18 to August 21, heavy rain is forecast to continue in the North and the area from Thanh Hoa to North Quang Tri. Common rainfall is 120-250mm, locally over 350mm.
Including the period from the night of August 17 to the end of August 21, the total rainfall in many areas may reach 150-300mm, locally over 450mm. In Lai Chau, Dien Bien, North Tuyen Quang, Cao Bang, Lang Son and North Quang Tri, the common total rainfall is 100-200mm, locally over 300mm.

Heavy rain may affect sightseeing and travel activities, especially in mountainous areas and outdoor locations. Risk of flooding in low-lying areas, urban areas, industrial parks, and the possibility of flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides on slopes.
Tourists planning to explore the Northern mountainous region, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and localities from Ha Tinh to North Quang Tri in the coming days should regularly update weather forecasts, limit traveling through areas at risk of landslides, deep flooding or near rivers and streams when it rains heavily.
During thunderstorms, it is necessary to proactively find safe shelter, avoid standing under large trees or in empty areas; and consider adjusting the schedule if the weather becomes bad.
