According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the night of the 16th to the 17th of April (ie the night of February 29th, March 1st of the lunar calendar), cold air will affect the Northern region. However, due to its weak intensity, this cold spell will only cause a slight drop in temperature, making it difficult to cause clear cold.
Commenting on the phenomenon of "Nan Ban cold" in March of the lunar calendar, experts believe that the probability of occurrence is very low. If it appears, the level will only stop at a cool state, not prolonged and not strong enough to create a significant cold spell.
However, during the transitional season, late-season cold air waves may still appear sporadically but are often short and unstable.

Previously, hot weather had covered many areas across the country, especially the Central region. From Thanh Hoa to Hue, many days of intense heat were recorded, with common temperatures of 38-40 degrees Celsius, in some places exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Especially in the western mountainous areas of Nghe An and Ha Tinh, there were times above 41 degrees Celsius, a rare level in recent years.
Notably, this year's hot weather appeared earlier than the multi-year average. However, the hot weather trend is gradually decreasing. In the North, Central Highlands and South, the hot weather may last until the end of April 14 before cooling down from around April 15-16, coinciding with the time when cold air begins to impact. The Central region will cool down more slowly, from around April 17.
It is forecasted that in the second half of April to the beginning of May, hot weather is likely to return and increase widely. The number of intense hot days, with temperatures above 37 degrees Celsius, is forecast to be higher than the multi-year average, concentrated in the Northwest and the area from Thanh Hoa to Hue.
In addition, the seasonal transition also increases the risk of showers and thunderstorms in the northern mountainous region, the Central Highlands and the South. Extreme phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind can be accompanied, posing high risks, people and tourists need to proactively prevent them.
Nang Ban cold" is a familiar weather phenomenon in the North, considered the last cold spell left before winter completely closes and gives way to summer. This cold spell usually only lasts for a few days, accompanied by drizzle and cold winds, causing temperatures to drop significantly compared to before.
This phenomenon usually appears around March of the lunar calendar, when the weather has warmed up, even on hot days, but suddenly cold air returns.
In 2026, March of the lunar calendar falls from about April 17 to May 16 of the Gregorian calendar. Therefore, according to folk beliefs, "Ngan Ban cold" is likely to appear during this period.
