Attractive from the name
From July 31 to August 3, 2025 (June 7 to 10, the Lunar calendar of the year of At Ty), at the National Monument of the Tomb and Temple of Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong, the People's Committee of Cao Lanh Ward (new Dong Thap Province) will hold the 205th death anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong, who was named for the land of Cao Lanh. This is a very special spiritual and cultural event, especially for those who love to travel.
Not only is it one of the few localities in the Mekong Delta region that still preserves, conserves and develops relics related to the history of land opening, but there is also a beautiful story of compassion. Moreover, there is such a interweaving that it is difficult to distinguish between cultural, historical, spiritual factors...
The story of the couple named after the land of Cao Lanh is enough to attract people who love to explore the history of their homeland and country. According to official documents of the old Dong Thap Provincial Historical Science Association, in the early years of the Gia Long school year, starting from the love of people buying and selling in front of their family's tangerine garden that was exposed to the sun and rain, Mr. and Mrs. Do Cong Tuong, self- worshipped in My Tra village, now Cao Lanh ward (new Dong Thap province) organized a tent-covered shelter with bamboo and leaves.
Gradually, more and more people from all over have come to buy and sell, making the tangerine garden like a bustling market, commonly called Vuon Quyt market. Seeing that the good man had a meaning, the village people sent him to hold the position of Cau Dang, to look after the settlement of small disputes in the village. After that, people merged his title into Cau Lanh...
Around 1820, My Tra village experienced a severe and prolonged epidemic that killed many people. Despite spending all their money to invite doctors to treat him but still not ending the deadly epidemic, the couple decided to take their lives to pray for saving lives.
June 6. Canh Thin (1820), the old man and the woman bathed cleanly, ate vegetarian food on the ground and set up an incense table in the sky, vowing to take out all of their lives to pray for peace for the people. After 3 days of praying, the couple passed away.
Strangely, the epidemic is also gradually receding. For the convenience of the people, the people carefully buried the grandparents right behind the market area and built a temple right next to Vuon Quyt market. Now the temple project is recognized as a national relic, and is visited by many people inside and outside the province to worship and "hotly" as a destination on the Dong Thap tourism map.
