    Hanoi - On February 6 (the 9th day of the first lunar month), the traditional festival of Trieu Khuc village took place to commemorate the national hero Bo Cai Dai Vuong Phung Hung.

The annual festival takes place in early spring in Trieu Khuc village, Tan Trieu commune, Thanh Tri district.

    The Trieu Khuc village festival originated from the story of when King Phung Hung rose up to fight against the Tang invaders. To celebrate each victory and to encourage his troops, King Phung Hung had his soldiers dress up as women, wearing drums to dance and sing. Since then, to commemorate his merits, the villagers have organized a procession of Thanh Hoang every spring, which includes the typical dance “con dia danh bong” (prostitute playing the bong) performed by the young men of the village.
    The festival has existed for many years with many ancient rituals, starting with a palanquin procession to show respect of the Trieu Khuc people to Bo Cai Dai Vuong Phung Hung.
