The Capricorn convoy consists of 100 cars, 1,910 m long and weighs 2,990 tons, formed from 25 regular trains.
The Capricorn train runs along the Albula route, from Preda to Thusis, about 25 km long, in nearly 1 hour. This is the most spectacular route across the Alps between Thusis and St Moritz.
Built over a period of 5 years, the Albula railway line has a total length of 62km, with 55 bridges and 39 tunnels, along with winding and steep turns. Albula was recognized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UN UNESCO) as a world heritage in 2008.
In its journey to set a world record, the Capricorn has overcome famous hand-carried curves, passing through 22 tunnels and 48 bridges across valleys and deep canyons.
Another special feature of trains is that they are operated on a narrow-sized railway line and use a track only 1 meter in size. Meanwhile, previous world records held by Belgium and the Netherlands often used standard rails of 1,435m and ran through flat roads...
Sharing about this world record-breaking train, RhB CEO, Dr. Renato Fasciati told Euro News: "We have lost 30% of our revenue due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Setting this record on the occasion of the 175th anniversary of its establishment is an opportunity to promote this railway line".
