Preserving the beauty of Muong culture
Muong Xanh Village - Happy Farm is located in Bang Ga hamlet, Cao Son commune, Luong Son district, Hoa Binh province. Coming to Muong Xanh Village, visitors not only learn about the traditional cultural beauty of the Muong people through songs, dances, and the deep and resounding gongs, but also listen to Mr. Bach Chi Dien introduce the Khao Roi (Khao Doi) bamboo calendar heritage.
Khao Roi was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2022. In ancient times, before humans invented writing paper, the Muong people used bamboo to make a special type of paper to record and store information.
This bamboo calendar of the Muong people has been preserved for more than a thousand years on 12 bamboo sticks about 25 to 30 cm long. Each bamboo stick has 30 carvings, symbolizing 30 days of the month according to the lunar calendar, along with symbols and icons that talk about the factors that govern the day or indicate astronomical phenomena, the moon's orbit in conjunction with the Roi star.
Another interesting activity that Ban Muong Xanh offers is training sessions on drowning prevention skills, rescue skills, and first aid for drowning and suffocation. These are necessary skills in life.
