Ke Ga lighthouse is located on Ke Ga island (Tan Thanh commune) about 500m from the mainland, surrounded by blue sea and natural granite blocks with unique chicken head shapes, hence the name "Ke Ga".
This is one of the ancient lighthouses with the most majestic architecture, playing a particularly important role in the Vietnamese maritime safety assurance system. To get to Ke Ga Island, visitors can travel by canoe for about 5 minutes. On shallow days, visitors can walk to the island.
This lighthouse was built by the French in February 1897 and put into operation in 1900, designed and constructed by French engineer Chanavát.
The lighthouse is 42.8m high, built of granite, with an octagonal cylindrical architecture with a solid structure, bearing the imprint of 19th-century French architecture.
Previously, through exploration and research, the French chose Ke Ga Island to build a lighthouse, to help ships passing by determine coordinates and safe directions, avoiding accidents that had occurred. Ke Ga Island is entirely made of rock, with an average height higher than surrounding areas and protruding out of the sea, so it is also called "Nose".
The main material for building the lighthouse is ivory white or pale yellow granite. This type of stone is not available in the province and neighboring provinces, but a significant number of ships must be mobilized to transport it from elsewhere.
Ke Ga lighthouse was once certified by the Vietnam Records Center as the highest lighthouse in the country with 184 spiral staircases, with a scanning range of 22 nautical miles.
In the middle of a pristine, quiet island, over time, the Ke Ga Lighthouse is still quietly operating, bringing peace to domestic and foreign ships traveling in this area; signaling and guiding fishing boats of local fishermen after each offshore fishing trip to return to port safely.
Lighthouses are "sea eyes" guiding many sailors to overcome dangers, like a flame of faith that exists forever in the hearts of Vietnamese fishermen.
The Ke Ga Lighthouse relic is not only outstanding with its historical value and unique architecture but also attractive with its pristine and poetic natural scenery. Surrounding Ke Ga Island are natural rocky beaches of many unique shapes, clear blue sea water and fresh air, an ideal destination for tourists who like to explore and experience.
On December 6, 2025, the People's Committee of Tan Thanh commune, Lam Dong province, held a ceremony to announce the decision to rank the provincial-level relic for the historical and architectural relic of Ke Ga Lighthouse, helping to preserve one of the most ancient and large-scale lighthouses in Vietnam.
Leaders of Tan Thanh Commune People's Committee said that to preserve and promote heritage values associated with sustainable tourism development, the locality has established the Management Board of Ke Ga Lighthouse Historical and Architectural Relic Area. Management, preservation and exploitation of relic values are being gradually implemented.
