The exhibition with the theme “Hanoi and the City Gates” was held on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital, October 10. This event aims to recreate the heroic historical moments when the Capital was officially liberated, entering a new era - the era of independence, freedom and peace.
The event was organized by the National Archives Center I, the Department of State Records and Archives in coordination with the Hanoi Department of Home Affairs and the Thang Long Heritage Conservation Center. The exhibition took place at the Kinh Thien Palace yard - Thang Long Imperial Citadel.
The exhibition introduced 200 documents and images to visitors and divided them into 3 topics including Ancient Citadel, Victory Citadel and Hanoi Citadel today.
The theme “Ancient City Gate” will introduce the history of the formation of the City Gates of Thang Long - Hanoi. In addition, visitors will understand more about the architecture, role and changes of these City Gates.
Under the influence of the French in the planning process of Hanoi, the capital's city gates were gradually destroyed. Of which, Quan Chuong Gate is the only remaining vestige to this day.
In the theme “Victory Gate”, historical documents were displayed about the event when Uncle Ho’s troops and soldiers of the Capital Regiment from many old gates marched to take over Hanoi in 1954. Notably, the victory flag-raising ceremony at the Flagpole Stadium 70 years ago was held.
Finally, the theme “Hanoi Gate Today” introduces the process of innovation and development during the 70 years since our people took over the capital. The exhibition attracted many domestic and international visitors.
The Hanoi Citadels are not only witnesses to turbulent historical periods but also mark important milestones in the development of the capital.
The exhibition “Hanoi and the City Gates” takes place from October 7 to October 30 at the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Centre, 19C Hoang Dieu, Hanoi.
