Located at an altitude of more than 2,000m above sea level, Y Ty commune, Lao Cai province, is about 320km from Hanoi.
In recent years, this place has become a popular destination because of its year-round cool climate, pristine scenery and slow pace of life typical of the Northwest highlands.
If Sa Pa has become crowded, Y Ty brings a more peaceful feeling with winding roads, villages nestled by mountains and sea of clouds appearing from early morning to late afternoon.
The period from May to August is considered the beautiful season of Y Ty. This is when the highlands enter the flood season, terraced fields shine under the sun, interspersed with layers of drifting clouds around the mountainside.
Ms. Bui Hong Duyen (Hai Phong tourist) shared that just waking up at 5 am, standing in front of the homestay porch, you can see the entire "cloud ocean" covering the valley.

The morning air temperature fluctuates around 18 - 20 degrees Celsius, creating a completely comfortable feeling, in contrast to the temperature of nearly 40 degrees Celsius in the plains.
One of the most popular experiences in Y Ty is trekking through villages of the Ha Nhi people such as Choan Then, Lao Chai or Ngai Thau.
The characteristic earthen-walled roofs, layer upon layer of rice fields and the simple life of the people create a unique attraction for this land.
In the afternoon, visitors can sit in small cafes on the hillside, admire the clouds covering the mountains and forests or hunt for the sunset in the cloudy sea. At night, the temperature drops deeply, the air is as cool as early autumn.
In addition to the natural scenery, Y Ty cuisine is also an attractive highlight. Dishes such as black chicken hotpot, thang co, grilled pork under the armpits or corn wine with leaf yeast imbued with the flavor of the highlands.
The cost for the Y Ty trip is considered quite soft compared to many other famous tourist destinations.
Homestay prices range from 300,000 - 700,000 VND/room, suitable for groups of young people or small families who want to find a short resort.
According to the experience of many travel enthusiasts, the most beautiful route to Y Ty is to travel along the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway, then continue through Bat Xat. Travel time is about 6-7 hours by private car.
However, due to the steep mountainous terrain and many sharp curves, tourists need to carefully check their vehicles before the trip, and also follow the weather forecast because this area often experiences thick fog in the early morning and late at night.
In the context of hot weather continuing to cover many northern provinces and cities, highland destinations such as Y Ty are becoming an ideal choice for tourists who want to find the pleasant feeling of summer, temporarily leaving the dust and the hurried pace of urban life.
