Duc Gate - Cao Fort is the place that marked the Yen Bai uprising that caused a great resonance in 1930. The relic is of special interest to Yen Bai City and is preserved and integrated with technology.

The Duc Gate - Cao Fort relic is located in Nguyen Phuc ward, Yen Bai city. To get here, visitors can go from the city center (Km 5) along Dien Bien street through Cao Lanh slope, enter Nguyen Thai Hoc Avenue, turn right at the beginning of Yen Bai bridge, go 1 km, continue to turn right up the slope of the water plant, go about 100m.
Theo lich su ghi lai, Day la cong trinh vom uon lon, duoc xay vao nam 1893 bang gach do, day khoang 50 cm, chieu rong khoang 4 m, chieu cao 4 m, dai khoang 20 m va xuyen cheo xuong long doi noi voi ham ngam
This is a large arched structure, built in 1893 with red bricks, about 50 cm thick, about 4 m wide, 4 m high, about 20 m long and diagonally down the hill connecting to the underground tunnel.

According to Lao Dong's report on November 17, the relic now only has a section of more than ten meters long, the end of which has been cracked and eroded by American bombing during the war. The roof of the tunnel is built of red bricks, covered with cement and is about 10 cm thick.
Theo lich su ghi lai, Don binh Yen Bai bao gom Don Cao va Don Duoi duoc xay dung tai khu vuc doi cao nhat cua thi xa Yen Bai. Don Cao co mot vi tri quan su chien luoc nam o phia Tay thi xa Yen Bai cu.
According to historical records, Yen Bai Military Station, including Cao Station and Duoi Station, was built on the highest hill of Yen Bai town. Cao Station has a strategic military position located in the west of the old Yen Bai town.
Tu day, co the quan sat toan bo trung tam tinh ly va kiem soat ca mot doan song Thao bao quanh phia Tay thi xa, dai chung 2km, tu ben Au Lau den Bach Lam, dong thoi bao quat con duong bo va duong sat noi tu Ha Noi di Lao Cai va vao cac huyen phia Tay cua tinh Yen Bai.
This is a position that can observe the entire provincial center and control a section of Thao River surrounding the west of the town, about 2 km long, from Au Lau wharf to Bach Lam. At the same time, it covers the road and railway connecting Hanoi to Lao Cai and into the western districts of Yen Bai province.

Therefore, the French built a rear gate in the West. This place has a gentle slope, but to facilitate the movement of vehicles and soldiers, the French had the hill carved out to make a road, connecting Cao Fort with the fort's logistics area (military storage, artillery, horse stables, hospital...).
Nguoi Phap giao cho mot vien doi kho do ten la Luc, nguoi theo dao Cong giao, que o Nam Dinh, to chuc thi cong cong trinh nay. Chinh vi vay, cong nay co ten la Cong Duc.
The French assigned a red-clad captain named Luc, a Catholic from Nam Dinh, to organize the construction of this project. That is why this gate is called Duc Gate.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong (68 years old, resident of Nguyen Phuc ward, Yen Bai city) said: "According to the elders, the bunker under the hill was the command post of French officers. The bunker has two doors, the main door is Duc Gate, which goes diagonally down the hill."

Through the ups and downs of history, the relic has left its mark on time. Few people know that this place marks the Yen Bai uprising of Nguyen Thai Hoc. This may be the only vestige of the Yen Bai uprising. Although it failed, the Yen Bai uprising created a big echo in the early 1930s, causing a stir in French public opinion.

At the same time, it is a place to commemorate and demonstrate the tradition of "remembering the source of water when drinking water". Photo: Tran Bui
