Phu Binh lanterns struggle to maintain their craft in the industrial age

    From about 100 households, Phu Binh lantern village (HCMC) now only has about 10 households trying to preserve the traditional craft in the industrial lantern market.

    Đơn hàng lồng đèn thủ công giảm mạnh. Giá bán một chiếc lồng đèn từ khoảng 20.000 đồng nay chỉ còn 15.000-16.000 đồng, trong khi chi phí nguyên liệu, nhân công ngày càng tăng.

    Ông Nguyễn Đình Chiến - thợ làm lồng đèn Trung thu tại TPHCM cho biết, làm nghề truyền thống phải có tình yêu và sự kiên trì, nhưng khó khăn lớn nhất là làm sao để sống được bằng nghề. “Không có động lực thì không thể làm được” - ông Chiến nói.
