Hoan Kiem Ward People's Committee has announced the list of food establishments violating food safety regulations that have been handled (data from January 1st to 31st).
Notably, in the list, there are 2 names in the Michelin Guide's Bib Gourmand (delicious, reasonably priced restaurant) list. These are Pho Tu Lun restaurant (34 Au Trieu) and Mr. Bay Mien Tay (79 Hang Dieu).
Tu Lun pho restaurant on Au Trieu street was fined 4 million VND for the act of "displaying and storing food on equipment, tools, and materials that do not ensure hygiene conditions as prescribed".
Mr. Bay Mien Tay restaurant was fined 8 million VND for two violations: "wastewater drainage ditches in the restaurant area, kitchen not covered" and "places for processing, trading, and preserving with insects and harmful animals entering".
These two eateries are both familiar addresses for diners in Hanoi's Old Quarter.
Pho Tu Lun is one of the oldest traditional pho restaurants in Hanoi, with a history of more than 80 years. The special thing is that the pho broth does not use cinnamon or anise but is seasoned with fish sauce and grilled ginger.
Currently, the price of cooked pho at the restaurant is 55,000 VND/bowl, relish pho is 65,000 VND/bowl; special portions have prices depending on requirements. The restaurant is open from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM every day, serving main dishes such as relish pho, cooked pho, nạm gầu and vang sauce.
Meanwhile, Mr. Bay Mien Tay has existed for more than a decade. Michelin Guide assesses this small restaurant as famous for its crispy pancakes, along with many different fillings.
For first-time diners, English-speaking service staff will explain how to make banh xeo, wrapped in rice paper with vegetables and herbs, then dipped in sweet and sour dipping sauce before eating. Besides the signature banh xeo, the restaurant also serves hot pot, spring rolls, vermicelli and grilled food.
