Tropical Storm Debby caused numerous disasters before weakening into a tropical depression, resulting in at least 6 fatalities due to natural disasters.

According to CNN, tropical storm Debby has caused severe consequences in the southeastern part of the United States when it landed in this area. In which, the storm has caused at least 10 tornadoes, affecting more than 5 million people, including the cities of Raleigh (North Carolina) and Virginia Beach (Virginia).

As of August 8, at least 6 people have died due to natural disasters when the storm landed, one case of death due to a tornado in Lucama, North Carolina. The tornado also destroyed houses, a church, and a school in the area.

Since landing in Florida, consecutive floodwaters have flooded rivers, roads, causing people to be trapped in cars, houses, and boats. Recently, 3 children were rescued by a rescue team from the flooded water in Raleigh (North Carolina), including two 8-year-old and 11-year-old children who were found while clinging to a tree branch on the road.

In the face of the situation, US President Joe Biden has approved a declaration of a state of disaster in Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas – all of which were severely attacked by Debby this week. More than 700 employees of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) have been deployed to the southeastern United States and search and rescue teams are always on standby to provide support when needed.

According to the latest announcement issued on August 8 by the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Debby will continue to cause heavy rain, strong winds, and prolonged thunderstorms throughout most of the Central Atlantic and Northeast regions until the morning of August 10.

Debby is expected to move to the south of the Carolina coast before weakening into a tropical depression. The weather agency warns that Debby will create localized heavy rain on the Carolinas, with a high risk of flash flooding, landslides, and urban flooding.

Travelers are advised to continuously update information on the storm and extreme weather phenomena in the area; bring essential items such as raincoats, umbrellas, flashlights, and follow storm warnings from local authorities.
