Accordingly, self-driving vehicles will travel on two routes. A 16km long route from Jeju International Airport with a coastal route on the island, passing through many famous tourist destinations such as Dragon Head Park, Iho Tewoo Beach; the remaining 5km route is located in Jungmun Tourist Complex in the south of the island.
According to officials of the Korean Ministry of Transport, the ministry has worked with small and medium enterprises to put the project into operation.
The government will operate three vehicles free of charge on weekdays from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. until 2023.
Passengers can book their destination in the car's operating route. To ensure safety, there will be a manager to operate in case of emergency.
"Jeju Island is a tourist destination that not only Koreans but also foreigners visit a lot, we hope that this transportation service will be an opportunity to improve the quality of tourism on the island," said an official from the Korean Ministry of Transport.
