National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024 is a typical cultural - economic - social event, of national and international scale, associated with the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory.
Within the framework of National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, central ministries, departments and branches and Dien Bien province organized 169 programs and events (including 13 activities at the national scale), attracting millions of tourists to learn and experience the nature, history, traditional culture and beauty of Dien Bien people.
The programs and events contribute to preserving and promoting the value of cultural heritage; enhancing the promotion of tourism potential and strengths. At the same time, promoting tourism cooperation between Dien Bien province and localities nationwide, linking sustainable tourism development with socio-economic development in the province.
As a result, for the first time, Dien Bien welcomed the highest number of tourists ever, reaching over 1.8 million arrivals (an increase of 1.85 times compared to 2023). Of which, international tourists reached 11,500 arrivals (an increase of 1.31 times). Total revenue from tourists is estimated at 3,300 billion VND (an increase of 1.89 times).
The tourism industry has contributed to the GRDP growth in 2024 of Dien Bien province reaching over 10%, higher than the national average, contributing to increasing budget revenue, shifting economic structure in the right direction, developing economy, culture, society, ensuring national defense, security, and expanding foreign relations of Dien Bien province.
The success of the National Tourism Year - Dien Bien 2024 contributes to the overall success of Vietnam's tourism industry in 2024. The number of international tourists to Vietnam in the year reached about 17.5 million, an increase of 38.9% over the same period in 2023. Domestic visitors reached 110 million, an increase of 1.6% over the same period in 2023. Total revenue from tourism reached VND 840,000 billion, an increase of 23.8% over the same period in 2023.
In 2025, Thua Thien Hue province will host the National Tourism Year 2025 with the theme “Ancient Capital - New Opportunities”. The opening ceremony is expected to be held at the end of March 2025 in Hue City.
