Dien Bien develops cultural tourism from heritage advantages

Promoting the historical and cultural values of 19 ethnic groups, Dien Bien diversifies tourism products, creating motivation for sustainable socio-economic development.

Promoting the advantages from the system of historical relics and unique cultural treasures of 19 ethnic groups, Dien Bien is promoting the development of cultural tourism, contributing to creating a driving force for sustainable socio-economic growth, in line with the orientation of Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo.

Dien Bien stands out with a system of relics associated with the Dien Bien Phu Victory in 1954, including the Dien Bien Phu Special National Relic Battlefield and attractions such as Hill A1, De Cat Tunnel, Muong Thanh Bridge, Dien Bien Phu Campaign Command in Muong Phang, Martyrs' Cemetery A1 and Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum. These are "red addresses" for patriotic tradition education, and also attractive historical tourism products for tourists.

The province has 24 national intangible cultural heritages and 35 ranked relics, including 1 special national relic, 14 national relics and 20 provincial-level relics. Many cultural values such as Thai Xoe art, Then practice of the Thai people, traditional festivals, handicrafts, cuisine and costumes of the Thai, Mong, Kho Mu, Ha Nhi, Dao ethnic groups are preserved and promoted in association with tourism development.

Many cultural villages such as Phieng Loi, Him Lam 2, Che Can and community tourism destinations in Muong Phang, Tua Chua, Muong Nhe (Dien Bien) attract tourists thanks to preserving stilt house architecture, folk songs, brocade weaving and traditional lifestyles.

Scenic spots such as Pa Khoang lake, Muong Phang special-use forest, Pa Thom cave, U Va hot spring, and the westernmost point of A Pa Chai contribute to the formation of a product chain combining history, culture and ecology.

The Ban Flower Festival, held annually in March, has become a tourism brand of Dien Bien, promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups through art activities, folk sports, introducing cuisine, cultural space and OCOP products.

In 2025, Dien Bien welcomed more than 1.45 million visitors, tourism revenue reached about 2,400 billion VND. In the coming time, the province will continue to preserve heritage associated with sustainable tourism development, build high-quality cultural products, promote digital transformation in promoting destinations, digitizing relics, museums and attracting investment in key tourist areas and attractions.
