The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) said that the new regulation is applied to enhance aviation security.
Accordingly, when the scanning process detects abnormal signs or there is suspicion that the luggage contains explosives, prohibited items, dangerous goods or items not allowed to be transported by air, security personnel can open the luggage for inspection even when passengers are not present.
The luggage check will be recorded. After completion, security personnel place a check notification inside the luggage so that passengers know that the bag has been opened and checked. Prohibited items discovered during the check may be confiscated and handled according to relevant regulations.
Thailand is one of the foreign destinations chosen by Vietnamese people for travel trips. Therefore, passengers flying to or from Thai airports from mid-October need to pay more attention to preparing checked baggage.
First of all, passengers should check all belongings before packing checked baggage, instead of just paying attention to the weight. CAAT recommends that passengers ensure that their luggage does not contain prohibited items or dangerous goods. The agency also publishes a list of dangerous goods and specific regulations on whether or not to carry them in their luggage.
Accordingly, portable power banks and discrete lithium batteries are not allowed to be placed in checked baggage, but must be carried in hand luggage according to regulations. Lithium batteries are types of batteries commonly used in phones, laptops, cameras, smartwatches and many other electronic devices.
With portable chargers, types with a capacity of no more than 100 Wh are allowed to be carried in hand luggage. Types with a capacity of over 100 Wh to 160 Wh need to be approved by the airline in advance and each passenger is allowed to carry a maximum of 2 units.
Some other items also need special attention. Fireworks and flammable and explosive materials are in the group not allowed to be brought on airplanes. Some types of lighters, including ignition lighters or creating blue flames, are also in the prohibited group.
Electronic cigarettes are also items that tourists need to be cautious about. According to CAAT's list, this device should not be placed in checked baggage and if allowed to be brought on the plane, it must be placed in hand luggage according to regulations. However, electronic cigarettes are prohibited items in Thailand, so Vietnamese tourists should not carry them when entering Thailand.
CAAT recommends that passengers use approved locks, such as TSA locks, to facilitate security checks. In case luggage needs to be opened but cannot be opened in the appropriate way, authorized staff can break the lock or lock mechanism to conduct the check.
Damage arising from lock breaking in this case is not eligible for compensation.
Tourists should also limit cash, important papers, valuable electronics, fragile objects and essential items in checked baggage. Necessary items should be carried in hand luggage if they meet the regulations of the airline and authorities.
