On Hang Dau street (Hanoi), a wooden clogs shop is attracting the attention of domestic and foreign tourists. Instead of just buying a ready-made souvenir, customers can choose their own sole style, height, color, pattern and strap to create a pair of clogs with their own mark.
During a trip to Hanoi, Ms. Jana - a tourist from Germany - and her friend decided to come to experience making shoes after seeing the store on social networks.
My friend and I really want to try making clogs because this is a very beautiful souvenir. I think there are many options for you to choose and completely design according to your own preferences," Ms. Jana shared.
The female tourist said she especially liked the store having many sizes and designs to choose from. She chose a pair of wooden clogs with floral patterns and pink straps.
I think this is an item imbued with Vietnamese tradition, very suitable to bring home as a souvenir. In Europe, we don't have such clogs," Ms. Jana said.
Similarly, Ms. Shakira - a tourist from Germany - learned about the store when searching for shopping locations in Hanoi on TikTok. After sending information to a Vietnamese friend and being introduced to this as an interesting place, she decided to come and experience it.
“I think these shoes are really beautiful and unique. There are many types of shoes in the world, but these shoes look very different. In particular, the fact that the store can design and make them according to each person's own choice makes them even more special,” Shakira shared.
Based on her love for yellow and music, she chose a pair of clogs with a Sol lock pattern and yellow straps.
After the experience, Shakira plans to share pictures of the clogs on Instagram and TikTok.
I will make a diary-style video and say that I bought these shoes here because I want to support local stores," said Shakira.
According to Ms. Nguyen Tuyet Nhung - owner of a wooden clogs store on Hang Dau street (Hanoi), the store has been selling clogs for nearly 40 years. Products are mainly made from xoan wood and pine wood, then completed according to customer choices.
Customers coming here will choose designs, choose straps and choose boot styles according to their preferences. Each person can choose differently to create products with their own mark," Ms. Nhung said.
Shoes at the store come in many sizes, heights from 5 to 14 cm, of which the 5 - 6 cm high type is chosen by many customers. The straps are also quite diverse, from transparent plastic, flower-studded, beaded, stone-studded to brocade straps, cowhide, leopard-skin. The store also has models for children.
Usually, customers will like high clogs from 5 - 7 cm, the type of brocade straps chosen the most. Brocade straps are cut from a large piece of fabric, so the patterns of each strap are different. Thanks to that, each pair of brocade clogs is almost a unique product," Ms. Nhung shared.
Recently, the fact that wooden clogs images are shared on social networks helps the store reach more young customers, while the customer base is still diverse in age.
Previously, many people did not know about the store, but since the product was shared on social networks, customers have come to buy more, especially young people. Customers of the store are of all ages, from children, young people to the elderly," Ms. Nhung said.
