Tourism shifts to selective experience

Ho Chi Minh City - From April 30th holiday, tourism recorded a trend of shifting to a selective journey, creating a foundation for summer to continue to flourish with many flexible choices.

Stepping into the second quarter of 2026, the tourism market recorded signs of recovery from peak periods such as Hung Kings Commemoration and the April 30 - May 1 holiday. Tourism demand increased significantly, leading to excitement in both domestic and international markets.

According to Vietravel Tourism Joint Stock Company, the unit is expected to serve more than 17,800 visitors during these 2 holidays. Among them, short-day domestic routes, especially sea and resort tourism, continue to prevail with positive bookings.

Mr. Tran Doan The Duy - General Director of Vietravel Tourism Joint Stock Company said that this year's market is recording a clear shift from the trend of "where to go" to choosing a selective vacation, emphasizing personalization and the value of experience.

Tourists are not only interested in safety but also expect deep journeys, associated with culture, nature and local life. This is also a signal for businesses to continue to improve service quality, taking experience as the core value.

From the perspective of domestic tourism stimulus policies, Mr. Pham Anh Vu - Deputy General Director of Viet Tourism Company said that in the context of a still volatile economy, the tourism industry needs to have more appropriate tourism stimulus solutions such as incentives from the budget, supporting tax reduction, encouraging the development of ecotourism tours, experiential tours and sustainable tourism to attract tourists, especially young groups.

Forecasting for the summer of 2026, Mr. Nguyen Minh Man - Deputy General Director of VinaGroup Travel Company said that the market will enter its peak from mid-June, after the end of the exams. Right from mid-May, the number of visitors began to increase.

Accordingly, about 60 - 70% of demand will focus on domestic tours, including tour and self-sufficient forms, while foreign tours account for about 30 - 40%. The trend of near-range travel, within a range of about 300 km, traveling in family or individual groups such as caravans, trekking, camping and long-day resorts is forecast to increase sharply. Besides, a small part of tourists are still looking for unique, quality products at reasonable prices.
