Hanoi welcomes record high number of tourists during the Lunar New Year holiday

Hanoi's tourism industry recorded a new record in the number of visitors during the 2026 Lunar New Year, an increase of 36.3% compared to the 2025 Lunar New Year.

According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, during the 9-day Lunar New Year holiday of Binh Ngo (from February 14-22, 2026, i.e. December 27 of the year At Ty to the end of January 6 of the year Binh Ngo), the Capital welcomed about 1.34 million visitors, an increase of 36.3% compared to the same period in 2025 and more than 2 times higher than the Lunar New Year of Giap Thin 2024.

Of which, international visitors reached about 217,000, a sharp increase of 55% compared to the same period in 2025; the rest are domestic visitors. Total revenue from tourists is estimated at 4.87 trillion VND, an increase of 40.2% compared to the same period last year.

The leading international markets bringing tourists to Hanoi during Tet include China, Korea, India, France, UK, USA, Taiwan (China), Germany...

To meet the demand for sightseeing during peak seasons, tourist areas and attractions in the city have prepared many Tet welcoming programs. All relic sites are open to serve visitors. Many attractions enhance the content of experience, interaction and cultural depth through the introduction of craft village products, intangible heritage combined with traditional art performances.

In Hanoi Old Quarter, the Vietnamese Tet - Street Tet program is organized at many historical sites and cultural spaces.

The Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam relic site implements the Binh Ngo Spring Calligraphy Festival along with a series of cultural and artistic activities, experiencing calligraphy writing.

The Thang Long Imperial Citadel heritage area organizes the re-enactment of the "Song Cuu Nghinh Tan" ritual, and at the same time, displays, exhibitions, water puppetry, dry puppetry and folk performances take place.

Hanoi Museum launches the thematic exhibition "Long Ma Khai Van" as a spring greeting for visitors.

In addition, tours such as Ngoc Son Temple - Thang Long Tu Tran, Hanoi Heritage Train with 5 gates, and a series of activities celebrating the Party - celebrating Spring in the Hoan Kiem Lake - Ngoc Son temple area also attract many people and tourists. Many major relics of the city open for free during Tet.

In the period from February 14th to the end of February 20th, many destinations recorded high number of visitors, such as: Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam welcoming 119,583 visitors; Hoa Lo Prison 24,663 visitors; Huong Pagoda 76,608 visitors; Hanoi Zoo 29,377 visitors; Co Loa more than 38,800 visitors; Thang Long Imperial Citadel 49,181 visitors.

For the accommodation block, the average room occupancy rate of the hotel and tourist apartment system during the Binh Ngo Tet holiday is estimated at about 66.8%, an increase of 1.2 percentage points compared to the same period in 2025. The 4-5 star hotel segment alone reached over 72%.
