
The South Korean government will outline support packages for workers and businesses related to the dog meat industry, including dog farms and dog meat restaurants.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, a total of 5,625 establishments will be affected by this law and are therefore eligible for government support.
This agency will provide compensation equivalent to the depreciation value of the relevant assets related to the dog farm or slaughterhouse, in accordance with the degree of law enforcement on August 7.
Those who raise dogs will also be reimbursed for demolition costs and receive additional compensation - the amount of which will be determined by the government by the end of August at the latest.
For dog meat distributors or restaurant owners, the South Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety will compensate for closure costs if approved by the government.
Those who wish to change their business activities can seek funding from the state budget to renovate their business premises, as well as state-funded services such as consulting and training.
Dog meat has been a common food item for centuries in South Korea and North Korea, as some people believe that this type of meat helps to boost human health. South Koreans and North Koreans often eat dog meat during the summer, the hottest time of the year.

From December 2021, Hoi An City People's Committee has signed an agreement with the global animal welfare organization - Four Paws to commit to eliminating the use of dog and cat meat. It became the first locality in Vietnam to have a deal to end the trade and consumption of dog and cat meat.
However, like South Korea, Hoi An has faced many difficulties. After a long period of publicity and persuasion, most of the people have agreed. However, there are still 2 dog meat restaurants that have not closed, leading to Hoi An's goal of ending the purchase, sale, and consumption of dog and cat meat by the end of 2023 still unfulfilled.
