In 2023, Hue was honored to receive many international awards and titles from prestigious organizations, magazines and tourism information channels. Hue was ranked as one of the top 10 cities in Asia (8th place), ranked 28th in the list of cities with the best food in the world.
At the same time, Hue also made its mark with 2 Asian records in 2023: Hen rice dish and sesame candy gift. Hue is the only locality to honor 6 dishes in the list of 121 typical culinary dishes of 3 regions in the "Journey to find typical Vietnamese culinary cultural values".
Recently, in the list of top 10 international tourist markets to Hue, Taiwan (China) leads with 11% market share, followed by Thailand (10.5%), the US (8.9%), Malaysia (8.8%), France (8.1%), the UK (5.9%), Australia (5.15%), Germany (5.1%), Spain (1.3%) and South Korea (3.8%).
In 2024, Hue tourism industry will reach nearly 3.9 million visitors, an increase of 21.8% compared to 2023, including about 1.45 million international visitors, an increase of 16.6% compared to the previous year.
The proportion of international visitors accounts for nearly 36% of total visitors, mainly from ASEAN, Northeast Asia, Western Europe, North America and Australia markets. Tourism revenue reaches about 7,900 billion VND, up 19.6% compared to 2023.
In 2024, Hue was honored in the Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Destinations Awards, ranking 8th in the world’s top 25 cultural destinations. The city also received the ASEAN Clean Tourist City 2024 and ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Product 2024 awards. In addition, Hue is also the venue for MICE ASEAN 2024.
By 2025, Hue tourism industry expects to attract about 4.8 - 5 million visitors, of which international visitors account for about 55 - 60%. Total revenue from tourism is expected to reach 10,800 - 11,200 billion VND. The Department of Tourism also aims to develop 10 5-star hotels and call for investment in building 3 - 5 5-star hotel projects.
Many big events and festivals
Director of the Department of Tourism Tran Thi Hoai Tram said that in the future, Hue will continue to promote communication to build the image of a green, clean and sustainable destination. The city will also organize a series of events to welcome the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025, combined with the Hue Festival 2025, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the homeland and major festival events.
Activities organized within the framework of the National Tourism Year and Hue Festival 2025 will focus on 4 main program groups including: Spring Festival "Spring of the Ancient Capital"; Summer Festival "Shining Imperial City"; Autumn Festival "Hue in Autumn" and Winter Festival "Hue Winter" with more than 170 national and provincial events.
Of which, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and central agencies organized 8 national-level activities; Thua Thien Hue province hosted 62 activities (including 46 activities in the National Tourism Year program and 16 activities within the framework of Hue Festival 2025); provinces and centrally-run cities organized 102 activities in response to National Tourism Year - Hue 2025.
Among the above activities, there will be 4 key activities including the Opening Ceremony of "National Tourism Year - Hue 2025" combined with the Fireworks Art Program to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of Thua Thien Hue Province taking place on the evening of March 25, 2025; International Conference on Cultural Industries - the foundation for sustainable tourism development on March 25, 2025;
In addition, there will be a Cultural - Tourism Festival and a Program to introduce tourism, cuisine, Vietnamese craft villages, and connect businesses on the occasion of the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 in the European market scheduled for June 2025 and the Closing Ceremony of "National Tourism Year - Hue 2025" at the end of December 2025.
In addition, there are also key activities such as Promoting the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025 at the World Exhibition EXPO 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan with the theme "Inclusive society with people at the center" from April 25 to May 6, 2025; a series of activities including: Communication, promoting domestic and foreign tourism; International Food Festival; Chef Skills Competition, International Conference on Net Zero Tourism scheduled to take place in July - August 2025.
Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Hue City People's Committee, affirmed that tourism will be a spearhead in economic development. The city will also continue to invest in tourism infrastructure, develop unique tourism products, and cooperate with tourism training institutions to improve the quality of human resources.
Tourism promotion will continue to be innovated with a strong communication strategy, using smart, highly interactive tourism channels, to attract international tourists and enhance Hue's presence on the world tourism map. By organizing the National Tourism Year - Hue 2025, the city will affirm its position as a major tourism center in the region and globally.
