The traditional Tu Luong Xam festival is held at the Tu Luong Xam National Special Historical Relic Complex - where Duc Vuong Ngo Quyen is worshiped, the national hero who led our army and people to create the historic Bach Dang victory in 938, opening up a long-term era of independence and self-reliance for the Vietnamese nation. This is one of the typical cultural and religious activities, and also an important highlight in the spiritual and cultural tourism development strategy of Dong Hai ward and Hai Phong city.
Speaking at the opening of the festival, Chairman of Dong Hai Ward People's Committee Nguyen Trong Khiem emphasized that the Bach Dang Victory in 938 led by Ngo Quyen was a bright milestone in the nation's history, ending more than a thousand years of Northern domination, opening up a long-term era of independence and self-reliance for the country.
With strategic vision and talented military art, Ngo Quyen chose the Bach Dang river mouth area as a decisive battlefield, established a large headquarters in Luong Xam, organized the construction of underground pile battlefields, and took advantage of the tide to defeat the Southern Han invaders in just one water, creating a glorious feat.
Over the centuries, Tu Luong Xam has been honored by the people as "Tu Ca", one of the "four sacred shrines" of the ancient An Duong land. In 1986, the relic was ranked as a national historical relic; in January 2022, Tu Luong Xam Festival was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage. In particular, on January 17, 2025, the Prime Minister decided to rank Tu Luong Xam Relic Complex - Duc Vuong Ngo Quyen's headquarters base in 938 as a special national relic.
This year's festival takes place until March 5 with many rich activities such as traditional rituals, processions, incense offerings to commemorate Duc Vuong Ngo Quyen; cultural and sports activities, folk games, chess competitions, volleyball, calligraphy writing and art performances.
Through the festival, Dong Hai ward continues to propagate and educate patriotism, arouse national pride; and at the same time promote and introduce the historical and cultural values of the relic to a large number of people and tourists.
This is also an opportunity for the locality to mobilize social resources, join hands to preserve, restore and promote heritage values, contributing to building Dong Hai into an attractive destination for cultural and spiritual tourism of Hai Phong city.
