Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta Tourism and Trade Week is a regional event, organized by Can Tho City People's Committee - Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in coordination with the People's Committees of the Mekong Delta provinces; taking place from November 29 to December 2.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - said that up to now, Ho Chi Minh City has cooperated with 6 regions, 46 provinces and cities nationwide in tourism development cooperation. In particular, tourism development cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta is a content in the Resolution of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress for the 2020-2025 term and is an important content in the working program for the 2025-2030 term.
The Ho Chi Minh City and Mekong Delta Tourism and Trade Week includes many unique activities in the fields of tourism and trade, including business connection activities, exhibitions of typical products of provinces and cities, cultural, artistic and sports programs, and introduction of tourism products to people and tourists.
According to the Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, this is a regional-scale activity in the direction of linking value chains, linking culture - agricultural production - trade - tourism and promoting brands with the participation of many localities, many components, many industries, many fields, organized for the first time in the Mekong Delta region.
Mr. Nham Hung - Composer, Southern Culture Researcher - said that, as the scriptwriter of the opening art program of the event, he focused on the theme "Quintessence of the river region", with 3 chapters including: Origin and fate of the river; Southern spirit; Aspiration to soar to the motherland of Nine Dragons; thereby highlighting the quintessence of economy, culture, tourism, and connection between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien - Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, this event is one of the key activities of 2024 and has an important meaning in linking cooperation at the regional scale, spreading the promotion of the image, land, people, cultural identity, and typical tourism of Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho City, and the provinces of the Mekong Delta.
The Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee believes that the cooperation program between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta provinces will develop further, contributing to the socio-economic development of the region and the country.
On this occasion, the Organizing Committee announced 50 destinations that were voted and recognized as "Attractive destinations of Ho Chi Minh City - Mekong Delta in 2024". At the same time, honoring and introducing 50 attractive destinations of the region to tourists and people, contributing to enhancing the attractiveness and competitiveness of destinations in the Mekong Delta in particular and the South in general.
