The above figures were announced after the Vietnam - Russia Tropical Center conducted and had the results of remote sensing and machine learning photo analysis in an area of 160km2.
The results show that from 2002 to 2024, Nha Trang Bay lost about 191 hectares of coral reefs, concentrated in the area around Hon Mun, Hon Mot, Hon Tam, Hon Mieu, Hon Tre islands.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Khanh Hoa province, in the past time, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province have directed the People's Committee of Nha Trang city (old) and the Nha Trang Bay Management Board to develop a project and implement a comprehensive plan to restore Nha Trang Bay.
The Nha Trang Bay Management Board has implemented many conservation solutions.
Notably, raising public awareness of marine environmental protection is a remarkable thing; from 2022 to now, swimming, diving, and glass bottom vessels in the Hon Mun strictly protected subdivision have been temporarily suspended.
In addition, the authorities have increased patrols, inspections and strictly handled administrative violations in Nha Trang Bay; relocated Lam Du lagoon of Doan Ket Cooperative out of the Hon Mun strictly protected area.
Support sustainable livelihoods for the community associated with coral reef conservation and gradually create a stable financial source for Nha Trang Bay management activities.
In the coming time, Khanh Hoa province will coordinate with localities and related units to promote propaganda to raise public awareness of environmental protection in Nha Trang Bay by 2030.
Continue to patrol and resolutely handle acts that negatively affect Hon Mun and Nha Trang Bay.
Nha Trang Bay Management Board is completing the pilot diving plan according to regulations; periodically monitoring and closely monitoring the ecosystem every month to promptly take management measures.
Promote socialization to restore mangrove ecosystems and regenerate aquatic resources.
In addition, the province plans to implement a project to install zoning buoys, propaganda signs and surveillance cameras to protect Hon Mun and Hon Chong coral reefs; advise on completing management mechanisms and policies after the marine spatial planning is issued.
Regarding financial resources, after the Provincial People's Council issues a Resolution, the province will collect tour fees for scenic spots in accordance with regulations, and at the same time study and adjust prices for inland waterway wharf and parking lot services to increase sustainable revenue for conservation work.
