IShowSpeed - a famous YouTuber and streamer with 29.8 million followers on YouTube came to Vietnam to participate in an event taking place in Ho Chi Minh City on September 14 and 15.
A lot of fans surrounded IShowSpeed, he also devoted himself to the friendly locals.
Unfortunately, IShowSpeed was rented out by two men who charged 1 million VND for a few minutes of experience. Meanwhile, the normal rental price is only 30,000 to 50,000 VND/hour.
Ho Chi Minh City residents really dislike this type of embezzlement. The information was immediately spread on social networks. The two men involved in the incident were invited to the Ben Nghe Ward Police Station, District 1, to be questioned on the night of September 14. The police then decided to fine one of the two men VND10 million for administrative violations.
However, it is worth noting that Mr. Le Truong Hien Hoa, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, said that the unit had sent an apology to IShowSpeed. The two men involved went to the hotel where IShowSpeed stayed to apologize and return the money.
The local authorities handled this incident very quickly, bringing good feelings in the hearts of tourists.
This is not the first time the online community has been outraged by international tourists being ripped off while traveling to Ho Chi Minh City. In August 2019, a Japanese tourist was ripped off by a cyclo driver for nearly VND3 million. Within hours of the media reporting the incident, authorities in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City launched an investigation and found the cyclo driver.
Very quickly, the leaders of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism met with the Japanese tourist's family to give them a pair of round-trip plane tickets and a letter of apology from the cyclo driver.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Hoa, Director of the Department of Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City (at that time Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City) sincerely said to the Japanese tourist: The city's tourism industry hopes that the old man and his family's feelings for tourism in the city in particular and Vietnam in general will remain unchanged.
"I hope the old man still loves and has a lot of affection for Vietnam," Ms. Anh Hoa expressed.
Many tourist cities have robberies and "rip-offs" of tourists, but the quick response and resolution of the authorities like Ho Chi Minh City is recognized by tourists. That shows respect for tourists, expressing the desire to serve tourists safely.
Other localities should refer to Ho Chi Minh City's approach, which will certainly make tourists satisfied and confident to come here.
But it is better to propagate and prevent all kinds of crimes, so that there are no robberies or "rip-offs". Even if the consequences are resolved well, it will still leave a bad impression in the eyes of tourists.
