On the morning of September 20, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Truong Thanh Duyen - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tan Hoa commune (Minh Hoa district, Quang Binh) said that prolonged heavy rain caused more than 400 houses to be deeply flooded.
Over the past two days, heavy rains have caused rivers to rise. Tan Hoa Commune is located in a “basin” surrounded by mountains, so houses are easily flooded after heavy rains.
By about 10am the same day, 428 households were flooded from 0.5-2m deep.
“For these flooded households, people have moved their belongings and assets to floating houses to avoid the flood, so everything is safe. Food has been stored for more than 5 days to prevent the flood from rising,” said Mr. Duan.
In Tan Hoa commune, there are more than 700 households, people here are gradually getting used to "living with floods".
Mr. Duan informed that these households no longer have to evacuate to the mountains or face the loss of property like every year. Thanks to the floating houses, people can easily evacuate on the spot, proactively preparing for the flood season.
The Chairman of Tan Hoa Commune People's Committee explained that the floating house is an initiative that has been implemented many years ago in the commune. The house helps people adapt to floods. When the water rises, the house will automatically float up to the water level, ensuring the safety of people and property inside.
