Today (October 16) is the first day of the Dinh Thay Thim Cultural - Tourism Festival 2024 in La Gi town, Binh Thuan province.
The ceremony is a series of traditional rituals such as: welcoming the gods, receiving the royal decree, entering the temple, inviting the birth, commemorating the ancestors and worshiping the soldiers... The festival is bustling with many folk games with strong coastal features such as: cake making contest, bird singing contest, tug of war, dragon fruit harvesting, basket carrying game, fish carrying contest, net weaving...
In addition, the festival also features cultural exchange activities such as music and dance, amateur music, lion and dragon dance performances, etc.
According to Lao Dong, from the morning of October 16, people from provinces and cities brought offerings to worship the temple. In the afternoon, the number of people was smaller. Local people said that because the first day of the festival was a weekday, there were fewer visitors than in 2023. It is possible that the number of people will be larger on weekends.
To ensure the safety of visitors, the festival organizing committee has arranged forces to ensure security and order, traffic safety, and to rectify the situation of beggars and street vendors soliciting visitors; at the same time, to promote the value and unique features of the festival.
Taking place over 3 days (October 16-18), the Dinh Thay Thim Cultural - Tourism Festival 2024 is held in a unique cultural space, imbued with folk culture with many unique activities. This is one of 5 typical cultural festivals chosen by Binh Thuan province to serve local tourism development.
The festival has historical and cultural significance, marking the merits of our ancestors over the past 130 years, including the characters of Thay and Thim. According to legend, the Taoist couple, called Thay and Thim by the locals, had many great contributions in helping the poor by prescribing medicine to cure diseases, building boats to help fishermen, and reclaiming fields...
Dinh Thay Thim Cultural - Tourism Festival was included in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in 2022.
According to the People's Committee of La Gi town, Dinh Thay Thim has become a "destination" attracting tourists to the locality. Not only during festivals but at any time of the year, the palace welcomes thousands of visitors combined with sea tourism.
The number of tourists coming to Dinh Thay Thim is increasing, estimated to welcome about 600,000 visitors each year.
