This is a key project in the cluster of works to celebrate the 71st anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2025).
Accordingly, the Hanoi Opera House and the thematic cultural and artistic park were started by the Hanoi People's Committee and Sun Group Group with a total investment of VND 12,756 billion.
The project has a scale of 40 hectares and has become a rare large-scale cultural and artistic project built with 100% socialized capital, promising to be a new destination to attract domestic and foreign tourism. The entire design, construction and operation process is closely managed and supervised by Hanoi City.

According to Comrade Nguyen Xuan Thang - Politburo member, Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, "This is a place where the world's quintessence converges, where the world's most unique advances converge, and where we enjoy famous art programs around the world.
But at the same time, this is also a place to spread the cultural values of Vietnam and the talents of the Vietnamese people to the world. We hope this is a testament to the beginning, to have more modern cultural works, so that Hanoi is worthy of being a civilized, modern capital, green and beautiful capital.
The Hanoi Opera House was designed by architect Renzo Piano, one of the most influential architects of the 20th century. As the first Italian to be in the Top 100 most influential people in the world, Renzo Piano has received many prestigious awards throughout his 60-year career.
Architect Renzo Piano spent many years researching Hanoi's culture and history before coming up with the idea to design the Theater. He inspired Hanoi to breathe into the theater design with a soft West Lake wave-shaped arch, and created more green space for the land associated with historical and cultural heritages.

Architect Renzo Piano shared about the project he devoted a lot of effort to: I love this project, and I believe this is the project I love the most. Because this project is associated with music, and music is my passion. And the Theater is an island, which always carries a hidden color.
Amidst the waves, this island of music will be more graceful and full of miracles. The best thing for me is to create a project where everyone can come back together, listen to music together, enjoy and share happiness.
With a floor area of about 40,980 m2, the Theater has two large stands including a large audience. The Opera House (capacity of 1,797 seats) and the multi-purpose hall with a mobile seating system can be moved to create space for standing events such as live music performances, concerts, etc., with a capacity of 1,430 seats and 216 balcony seats.
In addition to the two stands, the Theater also has many other multi-purpose spaces such as the main hall, the Exercise and Practice room, the Museum... This will not only be a place that can serve many different types of art performances such as symphony concests, performances of Broadway-style music, Opera and classical ballet, award events, Galas, large-scale entertainment performances..., but also a large-scale space for cultural, artistic and entertainment exchanges for people and tourists.

The most special mark of the Theater is the dome architecture inspired by the pearls rising from the surface of West Lake, with a super thin, super durable structure and covered with a layer of material to create the pearl effect, to be able to reflect the color of the West Lake water surface according to the movement of time during the day.
Mr. Duong Duc Tuan - Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee. Hanoi emphasized that in the Hanoi Capital Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 and the Adjustment of the Capital Master Plan to 2045, with a vision to 2065, culture and heritage are identified as one of the five important pillars of development.
This is a profoundly humane project, aimed at serving the community, not for profit and with socialized capital - very rare in the world, because most of the large theaters are invested or sponsored by the State. The pioneering investment of enterprises has shown the desire to create a complex of typical cultural works, modern and new architecture, of international stature, expressing the aspiration to rise up" - Mr. Duong Duc Tuan affirmed.

Mr. Dang Minh Truong - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sun Group affirmed that this is a mission - a special honor for Sun Group, a heart of gratitude for those born and raised in Hanoi, to create a cultural symbol for the capital and the country.
We are living in an era of strong growth of the country - an era of rapid and sustainable development for a rich, powerful, prosperous, civilized and happy Vietnam.
This is the era in which people are placed in the center, where every citizen has the right to enjoy development values and scientific literary values. The construction of the Hanoi Opera House is a step that demonstrates the aspiration to make Vietnam confident, self-reliant, and in step with the world" - Mr. Dang Minh Truong said.
It is expected that the Hanoi Opera House will be completed in 2027.
