At around 4:00 a.m. on July 13, a serious landslide occurred on Highway 34 from Ha Giang city to Cao Bang , burying a 16-seat passenger bus.

The landslide killed 11 people, including 8 people in a 16-seat car, 3 people in a 7-seat car (down to help the passenger bus escape the mud), and one person suspected of being missing has not been identified.

According to information from the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting, in recent days, Ha Giang has been the focus of many prolonged periods of heavy rain . Rain often occurs frequently in the evening and night.

Prolonged heavy rain leads to many areas in Ha Giang as well as the northern mountainous provinces having a high risk of landslides.

According to recommendations from meteorological experts, residents and tourists need to pay attention to some signs of landslides and flash floods such as prolonged heavy rain, cracks appearing on house walls, hillsides, and sloping roofs. .

Besides, trees near the living area show signs of tilting, river and stream water changes color, strange sounds emanating from the ground... are some serious signs.

When the above signs appear, you should quickly leave the dangerous place if you hear or notice loud noises nearby. Immediately notify neighbors and local authorities. Be ready to evacuate when required.

In addition, people must not go near areas where landslides have occurred; Do not fish, collect firewood, or swim in areas where rivers and streams have had heavy rain for many days and the water has turned turbid.

To limit risks caused by flash floods and landslides, the National Department of Hydrometeorology has put into operation an online warning system for flash floods and landslides at http://luquetsatlo.nchmf. gov.vn .

Information about flash floods and landslides in hundreds of high-risk communes across the country will be updated every 30 minutes. By monitoring the system, people in the area will know which locations are at high or very high risk of flash floods and landslides to have appropriate response solutions.

In addition to the point where serious landslides occurred on July 13, the online flash flood and landslide warning system of the General Department of Hydrometeorology issued very high warnings in many other places in Ha Giang.

For example, Tan Lap commune (Bac Quang), Che La commune and Nam Dan commune of Xin Man district, Cao Bo, Linh Ho and Quang Ngan communes of Vi Xuyen district, Tien Nguyen and Xuan Minh communes of Quang Binh district.

Besides, a series of areas in the Northern mountainous region are also at very high risk of landslides such as Tuyen Quang and Yen Bai provinces...

As of 3:00 p.m. on July 15, there were 293 communes with warnings about the risk of natural disasters.
