Protecting rare green forests
In June 2026, Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee said that the locality identified forest carbon development as one of the potential directions. To realize this goal, the province focuses on protecting existing forest areas, restoring degraded forests, improving the quality of planted forests and minimizing forest loss.
In Dak Uy special-use forest, a forest area of more than 500ha famous for its complex of rare rosewood trees, protection work is always placed at the highest level. According to the Dak Uy Special-use Forest Management Board, just a little carelessness, timber thieves can take advantage of it to illegally saw precious wood.
Previously, forest protection officials and staff often hung hammocks to sleep right next to the trắc trees to guard 24/24 hours. Currently, the unit has set up camps near the tree stumps to facilitate protection duty and reduce the impact of weather.
For trắc trees of special value, functional forces also wrap barbed wire around the tree trunk, install electrical systems and surveillance cameras to strengthen protection at night.
The forestry sector also mobilized additional forest rangers, forest management boards and local authorities to participate in patrols and inspections, contributing to making the Dak Uy special-use forest area a strictly protected area.

According to statistics from functional agencies, currently this forest still has more than 60 Trac trees standing dead or fallen due to natural disasters, along with about 100 old Trac trees that cannot be exploited and harvested according to the provisions of the Forestry Law. The special value of the precious timber population makes forest protection work here always maintained at a high level of vigilance.
Fining forest owner for allowing... forest to be destroyed
Along with forest protection, Quang Ngai province also strengthens the handling of violations. In May 2026, Mang Den Commune People's Committee issued a decision to sanction administrative violations in the field of forestry against Kon Tu Rang Village Community.
Through inspection, it was determined that this community had not fully implemented forest management, protection and development activities according to forest management regulations, leading to illegal deforestation with an area of 1,911m2 in sub-zone 477 belonging to the forest area managed by the community. The affected area is restored green natural forest, with the function of production forest.
Mang Den Commune People's Committee has fined 37.5 million VND, and at the same time requested Kon Tu Rang village community to replant the entire damaged forest area until it becomes a forest according to regulations.
According to functional sectors, Quang Ngai has many favorable conditions to develop the forest carbon market through activities to protect natural forests, restore and enrich poor forests, improve the quality of planted forests and transform small timber forests into large timber forests.
In addition, forest protection and development also creates a foundation for ecotourism development. Localities with large forest cover such as Mang Den, Dak Ha, Kon Tum, Son Tay, Son Ha and many other headwater forest areas are considered advantages for forming tourism products associated with nature and biodiversity conservation.
Quang Ngai protects natural forests to adapt to climate change, both creating additional revenue for the locality and promoting green economic development in the coming years.
Quang Ngai currently has about 881. 000 hectares of forest, of which more than 659,000 hectares are natural forests and about 222,000 hectares are planted forests. This is an important resource to implement greenhouse gas emission reduction activities, improve carbon absorption capacity, create new revenue sources and contribute to the GRDP growth of the locality.
