According to the Bangkok Post , the plane that crashed was a Cessna Caravan C208 of Thai Flying Service. The plane carrying 2 pilots and 7 passengers departed at 2:46 p.m. on August 22 from Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok to the coastal province of Trat, more than 270 km from Bangkok.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand said the propeller plane was scheduled to arrive at Ko Mai Chee airport in Trat province.
11 minutes after takeoff, the flight crew lost contact with Suvarnabhumi air traffic control station. At that time, the plane was located about 35 km from Bangkok.
The plane crashed into the mangrove forest in Bang Pakong district, Chachoengsao province at 3:18 p.m. A nearby witness said he heard a loud bang before the plane crashed.
No one survived. The victims included the Thai pilot and co-pilot, 2 Thai passengers and 5 Chinese passengers.
Bang Pakong police said they were collecting debris from the plane and had seen some body parts, belongings, and personal papers of the victims. High tides caused river water to flood into the area where the plane crashed, making search difficult.
Thai authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
