At a press conference providing socio-economic information in Ho Chi Minh City on the afternoon of October 23, a representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism said that while the Ministry of Construction allows Cai Mep - Thi Vai port areas to continue piloting the reception of international passenger ships until June 30, 2026, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism will coordinate with the Port Management Board of this area to complete the dossier and pilot plan to welcome international passenger ships.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism will work with shipping lines and travel companies specializing in exploiting cruise ship tourism to discuss and prepare necessary conditions, aiming to add functions to serve passengers, not just at the pilot level.
At the same time, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction is coordinating with departments and branches to develop a list of priority projects to invest in the development of waterway transport and passenger ports.
Previously, to take advantage of the existing seaport infrastructure to meet the needs of tourism development in the area, on October 17, the Ministry of Construction approved the policy of allowing continued receipt of international passenger ships at some ports in the Cai Mep - Thi Vai area of Ho Chi Minh City seaport as received in the past until June 30, 2026. The size of the passenger ship received is consistent with the size of the ship in the decision to announce the port.
The Ministry of Construction assigned the Vietnam Maritime and Waterway Administration to promptly complete the procedures to add the function of the port to receive international passenger ships to officially announce them according to regulations before June 30, 2026.
