On the afternoon of December 31, Mr. Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, together with leaders of departments, branches and the People's Committee of Son Tra District inspected the coastal erosion situation at My Khe beach (Son Tra District, Da Nang City).
The People's Committee of Da Nang City has assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to coordinate with the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches to find urgent solutions to temporarily overcome the situation. Limit the ongoing landslides, especially the locations that are deeply eroded, and urgently put up warning ropes and lookouts at the locations that are currently eroded, ensuring the safety of people and tourists.
According to the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches, My Khe beach area (Son Tra district, Da Nang city) is currently being encroached by waves more than 100m, eroding 15 - 20m into the shore.
"The erosion of the coast has caused heavy damage to four business groups on the beach, including groups 7, 8, 9, and 10. We have notified the business households to dismantle and move their assets to a safe place to minimize damage caused by natural disasters," said Mr. Tran Dai Nghia, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, a business owner at a tourist beach in Da Nang, said that in winter, few tourists use the services at the beach shop, so her family had to close. But unexpectedly, the seawater intrusion, especially at night, caused an electrical short circuit and the seawater washed away everything.
My Khe Beach (Da Nang) was once voted by Forbes Magazine as one of the 6 most beautiful beaches on the planet and in the Top 10 most beautiful beaches in Asia. However, for nearly 10 days now, this coast has been seriously eroded.
