Why is Ho Chi Minh City becoming the world's leading livable place?

Ho Chi Minh City not only attracts people to work or travel, but gradually becomes a place to live long-term. The high residential retention rate shows sustainable appeal.

Ho Chi Minh City is attractive to international residents

According to the City Pulse 2025 report recently published by Gensler Research Institute, Ho Chi Minh City ranks 2nd out of 65 urban areas in the world with the best "keeping" of residents, after Taipei (Taiwan, China).

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Khoa Luan - Director of Viet Hop on - Hop off Tourism Company commented that Ho Chi Minh City being ranked 2nd globally in the ranking of "keeping" urban areas with the best residents is completely understandable, because this city has long enjoyed many advantages in terms of living environment, living costs and integration.

"To become an attractive city in Asia or the world, Ho Chi Minh City has a very special advantage. This is truly a "good land for birds to nest" - a place with a fast growth rate and opens up opportunities for residents from many other countries to easily integrate" - Mr. Luan said.

In Ho Chi Minh City, foreigners often receive respect from the community, easily finding a suitable job, while the cost of living is not too high.

To continue to maintain and promote this advantage, according to Mr. Luan, there needs to be long-term policies, including policies on nationality. In the short term, Ho Chi Minh City is gathering enough "time - land - human resources" factors to become an ideal place for international residents to live, integrate and develop long-term.

"As long as they have a good average education level or higher, international residents can completely integrate and live well in Ho Chi Minh City. This is different from some developed countries" - Mr. Luan analyzed.

Ho Chi Minh City has long been a gathering place for people from all over the world. This feature has created a strong international reach, attracting more and more foreigners to work and live.

"If the immigration policy is adjusted towards being more open in the future, Ho Chi Minh City can completely become a large-scale city, attracting people, cash flow and investment flows to promote tourism development strongly" - Mr. Luan emphasized.

Developing destinations in depth

A representative of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism commented that the high rate of residents who want to stay long-term is a favorable foundation for developing a destination with depth. When people feel confident and connected to the city, they are not only the users of the service but also the storytellers, companions, and inspirers for tourists.

Ho Chi Minh City is no longer only a place to attract people to start a short-term business, but is gradually becoming an urban area to live long-term. This is an important foundation for sustainable tourism development.

In the strategy after the merger, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism aims to develop an inter-regional destination system. Ho Chi Minh City will play the role of the center of organization and connection, while Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau (old) will be additional spaces for ecology, resorts, and tourism industry. Tourists not only come to visit, but can also stay to experience an open, convenient and rich urban lifestyle.

According to the official report of Gensler Research Institute - the unit conducting the City Pulse 2025 survey, the results were compiled from more than 33,000 residents in 65 cities around the world.

Each participant is evaluated according to 152 factors, ranging from urban amenities, living environment, transport infrastructure to personal emotions, pride and attachment to the city.

Notably, Ho Chi Minh City scores high not in traditional infrastructure criteria, but in 5 outstanding emotional factors, including:

- Don't feel bored living in the city

- Feeling like being "home"

- Proud of your city

- The city is a place where you can stay long-term

- The level of solidarity between residents and the city has deepened over time

Ho Chi Minh City has reached a rate of 61% of residents saying that they "very little or no intention of leaving".
