On November 22, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) in coordination with the United Nations Tourism Organization (UN Tourism) and the People's Committee of Quang Nam province held a press conference to inform about the first international conference on Rural Tourism.
According to the Organizing Committee, this is the first global event of UN Tourism on rural tourism, expected to attract 300 delegates from national and local management agencies of UN Tourism member countries and Vietnam, international organizations, the tourism community and the private sector.
The conference will take place from December 9-11, 2024, in Quang Nam province.
Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong said that Vietnam was chosen by UN Tourism to host this important event because it is an active member of UN Tourism and has strengths and potential to develop rural tourism. Vietnam has successfully organized many international events.
“Hosting the conference is also an opportunity for us to raise awareness of the potential and strengths and promote interest in developing rural tourism in Vietnam; contribute to job creation and ensure equitable distribution of tourism benefits; develop sustainable tourism, towards Net Zero…”, Deputy Minister Ho An Phong emphasized.
For Quang Nam, this is a great opportunity for the province to promote its rural and cultural tourism potential to visitors, with the highlight being Tra Que Vegetable Village - the best tourist village in 2024 - as voted by UN Tourism; traditional pottery art at Thanh Ha Pottery Village and Hoi An ancient town - a land of convergence and exchange of Eastern and Western cultures.
The UN Tourism Best Villages Network currently has 354 members, including tourist villages that have received the Best Tourist Village award over the past 4 years (2021-2024) and villages participating in the Upgrading Programme.
Vietnam has 3 villages recognized as the Best Tourist Villages by UN Tourism: Thai Hai Village (Thai Nguyen, 2022), Tan Hoa Village (Quang Binh, 2023) and Tra Que Vegetable Village (Quang Nam, 2024).
