Vietnam estimates to welcome 12.2 million international visitors in the first 6 months of the year

With the impressive figures in the first half of the year, Vietnam's tourism industry has more motivation to achieve the goal of welcoming 25 million international visitors in 2026.

According to the preliminary results of the first 6 months of 2026 of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, in the first half of this year, Vietnam's tourism industry is expected to welcome 12.2 million international visitors, an increase of 14.8% compared to the same period in 2025 and reaching 48.8% compared to the plan.

In the domestic market, Vietnam served about 81.0 million visitors, reaching 54% compared to the plan. Total revenue from tourists is expected to reach 569 trillion VND, reaching 50.5% compared to the plan.

In 2026, Vietnam's tourism industry aims to welcome 25 million international visitors and 150 million domestic visitors. Total revenue from the tourism industry will reach about 1,125 trillion VND.

In the last 6 months of 2026, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism will focus on researching and advising on the promulgation of mechanisms, policies and tasks to implement the Project "Developing tourism into a key economic sector in the new era" after it is promulgated; continue to improve the legal system on tourism, amend and supplement the Tourism Law and guiding documents for implementation.

The Department researches and submits projects on tourism development in the Red River Delta, health care tourism development, tourism development associated with OCOP product production and consumption, and at the same time reviews, researches, amends, and supplements the Vietnam Tourism Development Strategy to 2030.

Along with that, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism will continue to effectively implement the Resolution, orienting the development of a system of tourism enterprises with competitive capacity, deeply participating in the global tourism supply chain; promoting the development of agricultural and rural tourism and health care tourism; strongly innovating communication, promotion, and tourism promotion; completing the tourism statistics system according to international practices; and at the same time strengthening destination management, service quality control, and tourism environment protection.

In the field of communication, promotion, and advertising, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism will implement tourism promotion programs in target markets and potential markets; continue to advise on the implementation of activities within the framework of the Vietnam - China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026 - 2027; coordinate to organize activities under the National Tourism Year - Gia Lai 2026.

The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism will participate in the WTM London International Tourism Fair 2026, the ITE International Tourism Fair 2026 and annual domestic tourism promotion events. At the same time, organize the National Tourism Promotion Conference 2027, international tourism conferences ACMECS, CLMV, CLV and the National Green Tourism Annual Forum 2026.

In addition, the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism will continue to implement regular tasks according to the work plan, strengthen inspection of law compliance in tourism business activities; implement the Tourism System Plan for the period 2021-2030, vision to 2045.
