This year, the Lunar New Year holiday for Korean workers will last for six days from the weekend of January 25-26 to January 30, four days longer than other years. As a result, the number of Korean tourists traveling abroad is expected to increase.
The most popular tourist destination for Koreans is Japan. The devaluation of the Yen has led many to choose the land of the rising sun for their experience. Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka are the most popular cities.
Next are Bangkok (Thailand), Shanghai (China) and Hong Kong (China).
Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang of Vietnam are the next cities on the list, tied with Sapporo of Japan.
The South Korean cities expected to receive the most foreign tourists during the Lunar New Year holiday are Seoul, Jeju, Busan, Incheon and Seogwipo, respectively.
According to data released by online travel platform Trip.com on January 15, compared to the Lunar New Year 2024, the demand for overseas travel is expected to increase by 73.15% this year.
Domestic tourism demand from foreign visitors to Korea is also estimated to have increased by 18.16%. These figures are calculated from the booking rates for flights, accommodations, and activities during the Lunar New Year holiday.
Due to the long holiday, the average length of stay also increased to 8.1 days for Koreans traveling abroad and 7.6 days for foreigners traveling to Korea.
